Grand Old Lady!

She was a Victorian, once the home of the mayor, but flooded too many times and expensive to heat. The clanking steam pipes were wonderful to hear in the winter, like the song of a calliope – but she is long gone, a victim of bureaucracy, insurance and the river that she loved to guard.

Today, you can see the vacant lot, owned by the village, on Maple Street.

The full page picture of the log home was taken during our first snowy winter several years ago. The two ‘shrubs’ on the right side are actually the propane tanks for heating the home. A retired contractor advised me to move them a distance from the building, which I did, putting in an underground line and getting a larger capacity, sausage shaped tank.

Most of the pages and blog entries are personal memory, actual happenings, and genealogical/historical research.
